As the cold days of winter continue, it's so inspiring to gather up a stack of seed catalogs and dream of spring days to come. Of course I circle and highlight way more than I can possibly afford or even have time to plant but dreaming is good for the soul.

The Joy you give to others...

Somehow not only for Christmas

but all the long year through,

the joy that you give to others

is the joy that comes back to you.

and the more you spend in blessing

the poor and lonely and sad,

the more of your heart's possessing

returns to make you glad.

I love this familiar Christmas poem by John Greenleaf Whittier. Somehow it helps me to focus on the true Joy of the season. And as the Grinch found out, it doesn't always come in packages, boxes and bows. May you have a wonderful Christmas this year.

Happy 4th of July

Remove Formatting from selection
In 1776, John Adams suggested that the 4th of July be celebrated with pomp and parade, games, sports, guns, bonfires and illuminations from one end of the country to the other. Hope you have a wonderful 4th with family and friends.

Miniature Fairy Gardens

Create your own miniature garden! We carry a wide assortment of all the accessories you need to create a little garden haven. This one was planted in an old tin antique picnic basket but you can use just about anything that will hold dirt. An old basket, suitcase or even a drawer would make a great container. Add a trellis, chairs, benches, fencing and paving stones. Then for finishing touches: beeskeps, birdhouses, urns, birdbaths, and even little garden tools. Choose plants according to whether you plan to keep it in shade or sun This one features angel vine on the trellis and a fern. In the small urn is a little sprig of hen and chicks which doesn't require much soil. This is a great project to do with kids or grandkids this summer. It also makes a great gift!
